We spent Valentine's/President's Day weekend exploring the great city of San Antonio. Mike had already been there a week for work and was staying another week,
so we thought it would be the perfect chance for me to fly down there for a visit and to see what's been taking up so much of his time this year. He is managing the renovation process of a 400-unit apartment complex his company bought recently. He's doing a great job and even involving the kids in the complex to get ideas for their new playground equipment!
We ate a lot of great Tex-Mex food, went outlet mall shopping, explored the downtown Riverwalk and the Alamo, but the highlight of our trip was definitely witnessing the mass wedding on the front steps of the courthouse on Valentine's Day.I love people watching anyway, but this was the ultimate opportunity for people watching and eavesdropping. We just happened to walk past the courthouse on the way to the governor's mansion when we saw the mass of people decked out in red, black, and white. Mike quickly pulled out his phone and googled to find out that they were conducting group weddings every 2 hours on Valentine's Day - we immediately decided to head back to Riverwalk for an hour to grab a drink and be back for the 4:00 "ceremony." Boy were we glad we did, look at these photo ops!! Mike thinks I was mean for taking the close-up pictures, but I think it was totally worth it.
Beginning of the group ceremony, they just handed in their marriage licenses
The officiant, and a few happy brides

While we were watching the couples exchange vows, my cousin Julia, from NYC, sent me a message saying she and her boyfriend were actually in San Antonio that weekend and asked if we'd like to meet up - of course!!
An hour later we were meeting up for drinks at Ibiza on the Riverwalk. It was nice sitting outside for about 10 minutes. We were enjoying the sunshine when a large cloud rolled in, kicked up a fierce wind, and dropped the temperature about 20 degrees. We ran inside and talked for another hour. It was great meeting her boyfriend! With Mike going back to SA every other week, I'm sure this won't be my last trip to Texas. Although, I do have some reservations about visiting in July when it gets up to 115 degrees...
